We want equality.

We make no apologies for our passion and commitment towards achieving equality

nor our  opposition to racial prejudice and structural racism.

There are currently 2500 museums in Britain yet despite

the significant contributions of Windrush communities

to British life there is no Windrush museum, that independently

collects, preserves, interprets and gives permanence  to

 Windrush cultural heritage.

Our mission is to change that.

The ancient African proverb of when an old person dies a library has been burnt down exemplifies different ways people value repositories of knowledge as both nomadic and accessible. Technology has afforded more democratisation in our story. The concept of what it means to be has been repurposed and redefined. ‘Being’ is part of that ecosystem reflecting
interconnectedness within a community and its aliveness’

MESSAGE FROM FOUNDER AND CHAIR

DR LES JOHNSON

Britain wouldn’t be the same without the contribution of the Windrush pioneers and their successors. I am delighted to be able to launch the National Windrush Museum Board. It is a privilege to work with such a talented team of professionals who are taking steps to realise their hopes and aspirations.

We look forward to seeing the establishment of a National Windrush Museum. This project will provide a legacy for Windrush pioneers and their children charting their positive impacts on British society.

We want you to join us on this journey. Help us and donate towards achieving this cause.
